Le HSCSD (high speed circuit switched data) est une technologie accélérant le débit des données autres que la voix sur tous les réseaux de téléphonie mobile GSM (global system for mobile telecommunications). Cette technologie prend la forme d’une mise à jour logicielle, et permet un débit trois fois plus rapide pour les services de téléphonie mobile liés au texte, à l’internet et au multimédia (accès au web, réception du courriel, transfert de fichiers, prise de photos, écoute de musique, vidéo, etc.). -

La norme GSM (global system for mobile telecomunications) est une norme de transmission radio-électrique permettant d’acheminer les données numérisées (d’abord la voix et le texte, puis le multimédia, la musique et la vidéo) d’un téléphone portable. Les premiers réseaux GSM sont lancés en 1992. En 2004, le GSM est utilisé par 10 millions de personnes. Cette norme devient le principal standard mondial en matière de communications mobiles (70% des usagers en 2005). Promue par la GSM Association, la norme GSM régit plusieurs standards de transmission: le standard GPRS (general packet radio system), le standard EDGE (enhanced data for GSM evolution), un standard intermédiaire avec débit plus rapide, et le standard 3GSM (3G + GSM), standard de téléphonie mobile 3G (3e génération). L’utilisation des standards EDGE et 3GSM débute courant 2004. Tout comme le HSCSD (high speed circuit switched data), une technologie permettant d’accélérer la transmission des données autres que la voix sur tous les réseaux GSM actuels. -
